Supporting Students Through the Transition to College
The transition to college can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming for both students and parents. Many students enter college academically capable, yet struggle with organization, motivation, follow-through, long-term planning, and navigating increasingly complex college systems.
Colleges and universities provide important advising and support services, but many students still need additional individualized guidance to help them stay organized, build routines, manage responsibilities, and feel confident about the path they are taking.
Aaren College Coaching was created to provide structured support that helps students navigate college with greater clarity, accountability, and independence.
Common Concerns
“My student is overwhelmed and doesn’t know where to start.”
“They struggle with procrastination and time management.”
“I’m worried they’re taking the wrong classes or falling behind.”
“They’re capable, but they don’t seem motivated.”
“The transition to college has been harder than expected.”
“They need structure and accountability.”
“I want them to become more independent, but they still need support.”
These concerns are common, and many students benefit from having an outside source of support, structure, and accountability during the college transition process.
How Support Is Provided
Support is individualized based on the student’s goals, challenges, and academic situation. Services may include:
Degree planning and course & prerequisite sequencing
Weekly organization and planning support
Executive functioning and ADHD-related strategies
Accountability and follow-through systems
Time management and study systems
CSU, UC, and California Community College pathway guidance
College transition support
The goal is not simply helping students complete tasks, but helping them develop systems, confidence, and habits that support long-term success and independence.
A Collaborative and Supportive Approach
My approach combines structured academic planning with coaching strategies rooted in motivational interviewing, accountability, and student-centered support. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the planning process, reflect on challenges, identify goals, and build greater ownership over their academic experience.
Every student’s situation is different, and support is designed to meet students where they are while helping them move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
